The Komitas Choir performing at Piccadilly Circus
2016-12-06
The Komitas Choir of the Tekeyan Trust performed at the unprecedented open air concert organised by Samsung World Choir.
This is an exceptional event since a total of 24 London-based choirs from 24 countries will perform at London’s famous Eros statue in Picadilly Circus in the run up to Christmas. Samsung is bringing Londoners together to celebrate the Gear S3 smart watch. Each day between 1st and 24th December a different choir will come to the six-meter high stage around the world-famous statue of Eros, and bring to life festive songs from around the globe.
The Komitas Choir under the chairmanship of V.Ouzounian and the baton of S.Olah, had the honour to perform on the very first day of the continuous event and to open the concert with its unique performances. Thousands of tourists as well as Londoners enjoyed the Armenian classical music for an hour. The Komitas Choir brilliantly performed works by A. Dolukhanyan, Komitas, A. Tigranyan, S. Lusikyan, A. Achemyan, S. Shakaryan, E. Hovhannisyan.
The four-part Komitas Choir consisting of 32 members was formed in 2013 on the initiative of Sipan Olah, a young Armenian tenor and conductor, winner of numerous music competitions, and Vartan Ouzounian, Honorary Secretary of the Tekeyan Trust London, Chairman of the Tekeyan Centre Fund Armenia, benefactor, recipient of St. Nerses Shnorhali Medal. The newly formed "Komitas" has already had many successful performances in England and Wales.
