The 29th Vahan Tekeyan Awards ceremony held at Tekeyan Centre

2023-10-20

The 29th Vahan Tekeyan Awards ceremony of the Tekeyan Cultural Association (TCA) of Armenia, supported by the Shake Tekeyan-Ghazarian Fund of the TCA of the United States and Canada, took place at Tekeyan Centre. These annual awards, the first of which took place in 1991, recognize and encourage the best work in various fields of Armenian culture. This year there were 55 applicants for the four categories of awards: Literature, Armenology, Fine Arts, and Decorative-Applied Arts.

This year, the category "Literature" was named after Yervand Azatian, a renowned literary scholar and a foreign member of the National Academy of Sciences of Armenia. His efforts helped establish and sustain the annual Vahan Tekeyan Award.

The winners of each category receive $1,500. The 2022 Vahan Tekeyan Awards were given to:

Literature - Norayr Adalyan for his collection of novels "Embryon" and Husik Ara for his collection of poems "Lost Generation."

Armenology - Amatuni Virabyan and Sonya Mirzoyan for their historical-biographical dictionary "Armenian Officers in the First World War and the Officers of the Army of the First Republic," and Aram Hovhannisyan for his work "Mleh Rubinyan".

Fine Arts - Melkon Hovhannisyan for the series "Forgotten Melody" and Ashot Gevorgyan for the series "Memory of Water."
