Tekeyan Centre Fund hosted a well-known Australian-Armenian researcher, genocide expert and historian Ara Ketibian who presented his new book "Orphans of Genocide" and donated it to the TCF "Haigashen and Marie Ouzounian" library.
The book marks the author’s eleventh publication on the subject of genocide. This volume is a collection of news and articles from American newspaper archives dating from 1894-1930. The records in the book refer to the children who were orphaned in consequence of the various massacres perpetrated by the Ottoman authorities against the Armenian population of Asia Minor in 1894-1914, followed by the genocide of Armenians, Greeks, and Assyrians from 1915 to 1923.
The book includes the response of the American press, including leading daily newspapers (The New York Times, The Boston Globe, The Christian Science Monitor, The Washington Post, The Los Angeles Times, and The Chicago Tribune) as well as documented details of Armenians who were persecuted in Ottoman Turkey, in the period 1890-1922.
"Orphans of Genocide" reveals the devastating experiences endured by young victims in the years following the massacres. It vividly shows the unimaginable struggle and challenges they have faced while attempting to rebuild their shattered lives. Furthermore, the book emphasizes the solidarity of the American people, as well as charitable and philanthropic organizations in their efforts to save orphans from certain death.
The book serves as an invaluable reference work, unraveling the fate of orphaned children. Additionally, it provides a documentary foundation, for confronting modern Turkish state-sponsored denial of the Armenian genocide.
The work "Orphans of Genocide" will allow researchers, students, journalists and all those who are interested in the detailed study of historical events to dive deep into the pages of such an important period of history.
Tekeyan Centre Fund expresses deep appreciation to Ara Ketibian for his dedication to preserving the memory of the victims of the genocide. With his work, the author ensures that the stories, struggle and efforts to save orphaned children will never be forgotten.
